This Sacred Fire
Hello my friends, here is another favorite of mine. This poem, in 2022, I was blessed to have laser engraved 10’ high at the center of a beautiful open air temple space called the Afterlife on display at burning man. It was a treasure of my heart to witness, over and over, people make their way to the center, pause to read my words, and quite often, break down in tears. It is one of many from my debut poetry collection “A Life of Prayer and Song” available now, link at the bottom of this post. I hope you enjoy.
—This Sacred Fire—
I'll hold it for you, always.
Come when you are tired.
Come when you are cold.
Come when the weight
of the world
or even simply your own precious life
falls unnecessarily heavy upon your shoulders.
Touch my hands,
I'll open my eyes like sunrise,
kiss your forehead,
there is no other home than here.
Take a breath and let me warm you,
sit by my side and we will marvel
at a glittering sky.
When you are weary,
when your bones shake,
when your time feels like a cage
around your heart
let me remind you;
with a hug,
with a smile,
with a brush of my fingertips against your temple,
that you are loved--
deeply,
and forever.
Take a breath and let me hold you.
There is room here for any ocean you may be.
For every quake and tremor,
for any shadows you are still afraid to see.
There is room here,
I promise,
a soft and secret hearth slip next to,
Love,
just breathe.
There is, nestled between mountain and sky, a meadow
peppered with wild birds and luminous flowers,
each one waiting to sing
and to shine
towards whichever shattered pieces you have need to rest.
Sit by my fire,
we'll share songs.
Whisper if you have to,
I will carry your heart until it feels again
strong enough to rise.
